Committee Descriptions

Learn about our different committees below

  • Assignment Books – This committee is responsible for contacting the schools to obtain the require number of folders and assignment books to be ordered for the up-coming school year.
  • Book Fair - This committee promotes a love of reading by assisting in organizing the book sale in the fall. Volunteers organize, set-up, check out and clean-up after the event. Occurs in November.
  • Box Tops for Education - Clip those box tops and earn money back! Chairperson will oversee collecting box tops, coordinate volunteers to check expiration, and submitting box tops to the schools 
  • Bulletin Boards - This committee will post items of interest to the PTA bulletin boards and maintain the boards so that items are current throughout the school year.
  • Cultural Arts - The arts are important to the education experience, cultivating discipline, self- expression, imagination and creativity as well as critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Chairperson coordinates various assemblies and events throughout the year to add to the student curriculum. Coordinates programs with teachers and principal to determine grade appropriate events. (Committee responsibilities run year-long)
  • Family Fun - This committee oversees the planning and carrying out of the family fun activities throughout the year ending with the PTA Appreciation event Family Fun day in June.
  • Fundraising - This committee will brainstorm on fundraiser activities for students and parents alike to help fund requested programs for the students. Ideals will be discussed and then brought to the board for approval.
  • Hospitality\Baking - The Chair and committee coordinates baked goods and refreshments for all back to school nights in September and works closely with other committees to provide baked goods and refreshments for bake sales at various PTA events throughout the year.
  • Nominating - This committee is responsible for presenting the best qualified nominees to hold officer positions.  This committee shall be composed of an uneven number of PTA members and will be selected by executive officers in December or January. (Committee responsibilities begin in February, and will include being responsible for naming officer nominees in March, and helping with the election in May\June)
  • Pride Day – This committee coordinates representation and the bake sale at the annual Bloomingdale Pride Day event. Volunteers are needed to fill one-hour slots at the PTA table during the event to conduct the bake sale and take membership forms for those who wish to join the PTA. Event takes place in September.
  • Scholarships - This committee is charged with publicizing and soliciting scholarship applications for Bloomingdale students attending and graduating from local high schools and making decisions based on the applicants' responses. It is also the responsibility of the committee to distribute the scholarship(s) and follow up with recipient(s) to ensure the scholarship(s) awarded is received.
  • Teacher Appreciation - The chair/committee is responsible for proposing, promoting and implementing PTA sponsored appreciation events during Teacher Appreciation Week. 
  • Tricky Tray - The Tricky Tray is a major fundraising event of the school year. Volunteers are needed for soliciting donations, decorating, wrapping baskets, and working the day and evening of the event. The hours required for this committee are extremely flexible.
  • Trunk or Treat – This committee is responsible for the planning and execution of the Trunk or Treat event. Planning for this event should begin in August to be ready for the school year to recruit parent volunteers to decorate their trunks and have lots of treats for the kids to ensure a fun and successful event.
