Nominations are now open for the 2025-2027 PTA  Board Positions

The Executive Board is the leadership team for the Bloomingdale PTA, a 501(c)3 organization that supports all the schools in our district. The PTA's mission is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

If you, or someone you know, would be a great fit for serving on the Bloomingdale PTA Executive Board for the next two school years, please submit the required form below by 5/16/25

Requirements  & Guidelines :
  • Must be a PTA member of that Local PTA, it is very important that this is confirmed.

  • Must be willing to receive and attend required PTA training for the position to which he or she will be elected.

  • Must be enthusiastic and supportive of the local PTA or council.

  • Must believe in the purposes of PTA and believe that PTA is the best association for working for children and youth.

  • Must be fair and objective and able to subordinate personal interests to the interests and well-being of the local PTA.

  • Must be at least 18 years old to be elected as a PTA officer.

  • Should have previous experience in PTA, though other association work may also be considered.

  • Should have knowledge of the PTA association and its role in the school and community.

  • Should be relied upon to give PTA a satisfactory level of priority and commitment.

  • Should have good relationships with people.

  • Should have vision and be innovative.

 Use this form to nominate a PTA Member (including yourself, if you'd like!) for a two-year PTA Board position. Nominees may be nominated for two positions of interest.

Each Nominee can be submitted for up to 2 Positions of Interest.

All nominees are required to attend the May PTA meeting on Wednesday, 5/21/25, at 7 pm to give a 1-minute speech as to why you would like to be considered for a position on the Bloomingdale PTA Executive Board.

Descriptions
PTA President

Oversees and coordinates the work of the executive board to run the PTA effectively. Presides at the PTA meeting and is the official contact and authorized signer of all contracts and disbursements. 

  • Prepare written agendas and preside at all General Membership and Board Meetings.

  • Ensure your Local PTA meets all requirements of the Local PTA Standards of Affiliation.

  • Study all references to duties and finances in the PTA bylaws, policies and standing rules.

  • Ensure all members and dues are reported to New Jersey PTA in a timely manner, at least monthly.

  • Work with all board members to help meet their goals and required duties.

  • Sign all contracts which have been approved by the board.

  • Be an authorized signer on the bank account.

  • Foster an environment of open communication among all board members.

  • Appoint a Financial Review committee at least 30 days before the last association meeting of the year. Appointments are subject to the approval of the board.

  • Represent Local PTA as a delegate to Council PTA, if applicable.

  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees, except the Nominating and Financial Review committees.

VP, Membership

The PTA Leader tasked with recruiting members plays an important role in the success of the PTA because a growing and engaged membership is the lifeblood of any PTA, and is the foundation of achieving our mission to make every child's potential a reality.

  • Submit members and dues to New Jersey PTA at least monthly.

  • Ensure your Local PTA meets all requirements of the Standards of Affiliation.

  • Recruit new members throughout the year with the goal of recruiting one member for every student at your school - A Voice for Every Child!

  • Engage school administration and faculty in supporting your PTA through membership.

  • Reach out to all families, new and returning, to become a member of your PTA.

  • Share the importance of PTA and publicize the vision, mission, priorities, and benefits of membership.

  • Ensure that all members are put into MemberHub so they receive their membership cards.

VP, Class Parents/Family Engagement

Responsible for creating opportunities for families to engage in PTA and school activities. 

  • Serve as liaisons between the Faculty Advisors (on behalf of the student leaders) and the parents and guardians of the grade they are representing. 

  • Plans and organizes family engagement outreach, programs and activities for the school year

  • Publicizes family engagement activities and events using newsletters, website, and  social media. 

  • Recruiting parents and guardians to assist with chaperoning class events and engaging in volunteer work.

  • Assist PTA to create and enhance the school’s family and community partnerships and school events.

Treasurer

Handles all banking from record keeping, budget planning, authorized disbursement and provides financial statements at every meeting. 

  • Assuring all PTA funds are promptly deposited into one or more bank accounts where PTA funds are maintained separately from funds of any other organization.

  • Keeping an accurate and incredibly detailed account of all funds received and all funds disbursed.

  • Paying all authorized financial obligations of the PTA, including dues to the council and the State PTA, promptly.

  • Preparing and filing the appropriate federal tax forms (990N, 990EZ or 990) on time.

  • Preserving all receipts, invoices, bank statements, canceled checks, and other financial records as specified in the records retention timetable.

  • Submitting a detailed, written monthly financial report at each meeting of the PTA membership and each meeting of the board of directors.

  • Submitting written reports by mail or email to the board during months when no meetings are held.

  • Developing and presenting, with support of the budget committee, the budget for the following year.

  • Submitting a final annual report before the end of the fiscal year.

  • Before delivering the books to the successor treasurer, submitting the current year’s records to the financial review committee.

Corresponding Secretary

Conducts all general correspondence  to our PTA members as directed by the board, including social media accounts, newsletter, etc. 

  • Meet with Executive Board prior to the next school year to review the budget from the previous year and establish a budget for the upcoming school year.

  • Send notices of meetings to executive board members and/or association members, as directed.

  • Read correspondence at executive board and association meetings, as requested by the president.

  • Maintain e-mail database of all PTA members.

  • Send e-mail blasts as requested by executive board members, chair and committee members.

  • Maintain and update PTA Facebook and Instagram pages.

  • Work with administrators and building principals to inform school community about PTA programs and events.

Recording Secretary

Records, prepares, and distributes meeting minutes to PTA Members. Prepares agenda, sign-in sheet, and materials for distribution at meetings. 

  • Study all references to duties in the PTA bylaws, policies, and standing rules.

  • Maintain all official records of the association.

  • Record in the minutes all business transacted at each association and board of directors meeting. View Sample Meeting Minutes.

  • Notifies board members, as requested by the president, of all called meetings.

  • Assist the president in determining a quorum at general membership and board meetings.

  • Present minutes from the previous meeting, general membership, or board.

  • Present a report of board meetings to the general membership as needed.

  • Prepares a draft of the minutes of each meeting within two to five days of the meeting.

  • Act as the corresponding secretary, reading communications at meetings and writing thank you notes, etc.
